Errant Libitus Welcome to Grixis Jhoira of the Ghitu Wydian Naturalist
Daniel Patten spent his first few years of life in North Carolina, and soon moved with the rest of the family up and over to the Pacific Northwest. Since graduation and moving out he pursued arts courses at Community Colleges including Everett and Edmonds leaning towards getting a career in the creative. It was during his early educational wanderings that he met, fell in love with, and married his wife, who promptly put him on track with an actual course of action towards obtaining his desired career.

He then began attending Seattle Central where he entered into the 2-year Design and Illustration program. It was here that he gained needed experience, working with other like-minded peers/faculty and an understanding of good design, to launch into the graphic design field. He was, however, unable to graduate as planned due to a bout with colon cancer during his last winter quarter.

Working past the health situation and then part-time at local print shops, he and his wife proceeded to re-evaluate the plan and changed course for the full college degree. At this point Daniel fell into the graphic design industry with ongoing work as an in-house designer for CrystalCommerce, Inc., a small ecommerce company. Here he currently works designing logos, websites, stationary, etc., as well as building the actual websites (aside from the ecommerce system itself) for online retailers primarily in the gaming retail industry.

Today, Daniel continues to work as the in-house designer for CrystalCommerce and has since completed his transfer degree at Edmonds. He is currently poised to begin his projected 3-year stint at the University of Washington for a BA in Graphic Design. When not studying or working, he enjoys being alive with his wife, drawing, gaming at the local collectibles shop, and playing the ocarina.

What is FoolPlanet?

Fool: An unwise, imprudent, or silly person. | a jester or clown retained by a noble or royal house | a person devoted to a particular activity | a duped person
Planet: Derived from ancient Greek planētēs meaning "wanderer." | A celestial body orbiting a star. | The earth.

So, what combination could it be and what interpretation of the combination might be the one that is intended here?

Could it be that the planet is sentient and isn't very sharp?

Perhaps it's about the people of the planet being so focused on their workings that they notice nothing else?

Perhaps it's just about one person?

Maybe that one person wanders like the planets, focused on a single thing while oblivious to all else around him?

Nah, it's nothing so complicated as all that, but it's always fun to read things into it and see where it takes you. It's actually the two nouns from a song by a Japanese alternative rock band, The Pillows, entitled "Fool on the Planet." It's a nice little song with charming and honest lyrics. I like the band and I like the song and it's just about that simple. It also helps that the words themselves appeal to me as "fool" reminds me to enjoy life (I do need a reminder for that) and "planet" helps me to take all things in proper perspective. Did I mention I think space and the universe are fascinating and exiting, too?

Plenty of times I've gotten so preoccupied with the things going on in my immediate life that I forget to step back and realize that my world is actually bigger, first, than whatever's happening here and now, and then much smaller in comparison to everything happening in the known universe. With this all in mind I find it silly to let myself get bothered by the small things and maybe that's what I like to read into my "FoolPlanet" mark. After the fact, of course.
